It’s my birthday! {a give-away & special discount code}

Today I turn 35.

(but sometimes still feel 22 and sometimes act 14.)

When I think back on the last two years, I am grateful. And when I think back on just this last year, I am thankful. As silly as this sounds, a big reason for that, is this little blog.

But really it’s because of you.

You, who show up here. You, who take the time to read my words. Listen to my rants, thoughts, and tolerate my total ridiculousness. For reals.

You have showered me with encouragement, kind words, surprises in my mailbox. But your love and friendship mean the most.

Today I am happy. I am content.

When asked what I want for my birthday, there isn’t anything I can think of. Since we’ve recently moved, I am terrified to collect unnecessary things and don’t want to fill our home with stuff. I’m trying to be very intentional about what I buy and bring into the house.

Yesterday my sweet 5 year old boy said, “But mama, we didn’t get you any presents.” And I said, “There is only one thing I want from you for my birthday.” He looked at me and said, “I know. You want my love.”

Exactly.

And I’ve received so much of it. From him, from you.

Every year, I get a bit of birthday money. I never know what to do with it. I usually end up using it to pay bills or for the kids’ activities. Or it will go to waste on the dollar bin at Target. Or worse…Taco Bell (yeah, gross, but hey, just being totally honest here).

If I really think about it, I’m sure I could find a few new supplies here or sign up for this class or this class. Because along with you and your friendship, art and creativity have brought me through the last few years.

So just the other day, I thought… what if I use it to give a gift instead? But what?

Well, this time last year, I was taking Jeanne Oliver‘s first e-course called Creatively Made.

**

It was amazing.

Her little chats. The journal prompts.

And oh, the art!

**

And when I saw that she is offering it again and it’s starts TODAY on my BIRTHDAY, I knew this is what I want to give to one of you!!!

Now, if you’re thinking, I’ve never made art or There is no way I can do that, I’ve got news for you friend…

you don’t have to have ever picked up a paint brush and you totally can do it…all of it!!!

I didn’t know how to do those things either. But Jeanne has lots of step by step instructional videos each week.

You will learn how to create all those beautiful things.

Go check out the promo video for it here.

But that’s not all…

I know from experience that just because you sign up for an art class, doesn’t always mean you can actually do all the art. Why? Because if you don’t have the supplies, you can’t make those beautiful creations. So along with this class, you will also get a $50 gift card to your local craft store (Dick Blick, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, etc.)!!!! Wa-hoo!!

But that’s not all…

I want to make you a custom leather cuff from my shop. The words of your choice. The flower color of your choice (if you want one).

Let Go 2

be still

And also now through Friday, you all can get 35% off anything in my shop using the code birthday35 at checkout… you know, cause I’m 35 and all ;)

(Now, understand that your order will probably not get to you till the end of February because currently they are packed in a box in my dining room in my new home).

How to enter:

OK, so all you have to do is in the comments below, share what word(s) or quote you’d put on your cuff if you’d like to enter to win.

That’s it. Easy peasy. Just a comment…you’re favorite word(s) or quote. Because you’re awesome and I’m so thankful for you!

{I’ll draw a name Friday night and contact the winner by email.}

Happy birthday friend!!!! :) hope it was a fun day! I would love the word Blessed. Love you!

  2. Jennifer says:

It’s so difficult to come up with something for the cuff. Clearly I’m making it too challenging for myself. I’ll just give you my top three. If I actually win I’ll have to come up with a way to decide: blessed, enough, or every day is precious. Oh, or maybe “be present”, I could benefit from the reminder.

My goal for this year is to tackle a new challenge, this class would work!

  3. Sally Peterson says:

You know me and my word Savor, but I guess more than that lately the word Thankful has been on my mind. Thankful for you friend. xoxo

  4. Kimber-Leigh says:

and i would choose: Wait. it’s what I’m learning a lot of right now. :)

Aww Happy Birthday!! 35 is like the new 25 so you are good there :) I have a birthday month! Its called A-MAY and my hubby hates it, ha. All in good fun though of course. I love the idea of you giving out a gift on your birthday. Not many people can be the big person like that and seriously…the story of your son telling you he knew what you wanted for your birthday is just precious. Hope you are having a great birthday week!

If I had to choose a saying to put on my bracelet it would be “Live Love Laugh” since those words are such important parts to keeping everyone happy everyday!

  6. Barb says:

maybe Proverbs 17:17, “a friend loveth at all times”. i need to remember that, as my emotions get the best of me WAY too often.

what do you get at TB? I get a vegetarian Mexican Pizza, or a 7 layer burrito with no rice, or vegetarian Nachos Bellgrande. OOOH! Or, the vegetarian chalupa supreme. (i am in fact NOT a veggie, but don’t care for their meat, since it gives me heartburn). :) And always, ALWAYS (unless for dinner), a Mt. Dew to wash it down.

    Happy Birthday to you,
    Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday dear Amber with the rockin’ morning mop,
    Happy Birthday to you!

PS. I have worn both of my cuffs, and have gotten SO MANY COMPLIMENTS. :)

    You ROCK!

    Barb

Happy Birthday!!! What an awesome sweet thing you have chosen to do with it! I found Jeanne Oliver through your recommendations and I love her style!! That class would be awesome.
Thank you so much for your honesty in your writing. It helps us all to know that we don’t have to be perfect, and that no one else is! ;o) (And don’t tell anyone, but I love Taco Bell. Meximelt and a Soft Taco Supreme. Yummy & yukky at the same time!)
I would like the word “Create” on a cuff. I am just learning to embrace that it’s okay to create. That my Creator made me that way, and it’s part of me. So I like to see the word as a reminder to allow myself to “create”.

  10. Janelle says:

Happy Birthday Amber! February birthdays are the best! I’m not here to win a prize I just wanted to encourage you to celebrate your birthday month the way I have the past few years. I, too, don’t need more stuff (ok, maybe a new pair of jeans but I want to buy them myself). I don’t like the way my birthday passes by so quickly. I have always felt it was a big letdown. So, a few years ago I decided to celebrate my birthday month and I do it by asking a few special people (not family, since I always spend time with them, but friends) in my life to spend quality time with them. I have gone on walks, enjoyed coffee and even took a cooking class with a friend. These are fun memories and a good excuse to hang out with friends. (And since you just moved to a new place you could always arrange a time to talk on the phone with a friend far away. Maybe you could both be sitting at a coffee shop while you are talking)

My two cents. Hope you had a wonderful birthday!

    Janelle

I LOVE the idea of a birthday month! and the whole idea behind it :) It’s true, there does seem to be a big let down. I’ll have to keep the “high” going a little bit longer. Thanks Janelle!

  11. Krista Spohn says:

First I’d like to say Happy Birthday!! 35 is a great age! Exodus 14:14 “The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm” That is a verse that has stuck with me through different situations in my life. If I win the drawing I would like that on the cuff to give to my daughter. Thank you for your wonderful heart, I hope this next year is filled with many blessings! Happy Birthday again!

    • Krista Spohn says:

Wow I just looked at jeanneoliver’s site. Awesome! I’ve always been kind of artsy/ creative, but I’ve recently discovered I can draw things by looking at a photo and putting it on paper or a wall. I drew a drawing of my daughter when she was little and it didn’t come out to bad. I would love to be able to get ideas and learn new techniques. It looks like her class will Awesome! Anyway, I hope whom ever get picked takes full advantage of the class, look like it will be fun and infomative.

      • Amber says:

Thanks Krista! She is a great blog to follow and she even has a really neat creative community at jeanneoliver.ning.com where you can connect with other women and even view some great videos!

  12. Happy birthday!!! There are a few quotes and sayings i use on a daily to get through things but the one i live by 150% is the following–I refuse to sink —-

  13. candice says:

You make 35 look like a teenager!
You are one of the most hilarious, kind and generous people that I have never met yet seems like my sister. I hope that your day was filled with childrens giggles and husbands kisses. I love you.

If I happen to win please put “stronger than she thought” and give it to one of these ladies who have already commented.

  14. Barb says:

Happy Birthday, Amber!! I hope, amid all of the flux, you are able enjoy your special day! It looks like you’ve done a very nice and generous job of making it special for everyone!!

As I write this, I’m looking at my leather cuff from Jeanne Oliver that I wear every day… be still… The words calm my soul. If I were to customize a cuff or other jewelry piece, I might emboss it with one of these favorite quotes: With this wind comes fate… -Rilke. ‘As you start to walk out on the way, the way appears… -Rumi. More than a word or two, I know… But such beautiful inspiration. I have plans to use the phrases in some of my own art…

I’m enjoying your posts… And your honest with what you share. It helps me in my own day, and somehow, causes me to feel connected with a kindred spirit. Thank you for that! Now… Enjoy the rest of your birthday eve… Try to pass on the Taco Bell craving and just go straight for the CAKE!!! Xox Barb xoX

Happy Birthday!! Sorry I lurk your blog and don’t comment…my man is premed so I identify on so many levels with you. I’ve been a faithful reader ever since I found you last summer :)

I think a birthday giveaway is a great idea! Your cuffs are so pretty! I would choose “Be still” since I need to remember to let God have control…plus, on a lighter note, it’s what I tell my kids all the time. Ha!

Love your blog (& Taco Bell, too, unfortunately).

My phrase to focus on this year is “The Lord is my shepherd’.

    • Amber says:

Ah, I have been thinking a lot about what that little phrase means exactly. Thanks for reading and so glad to have found another TB lover ;)

  17. Deborah says:

First, Happy Birthday. I took 3 of Jeanne’s courses. I’m actually still taking the third one now. Loved all of them.

I’d put the word “Grace” if I win. Thanks for the opportunity.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” a favorite from my daughter, Mead, who got it from her namesake, Margaret Mead. What a wonderful birthday blog, Amber!

  19. Newlymeds says:

Happy Happy birthday and thank you for linking up on the blog hop. I just had a birthday last week, fellow aquarius :) I hope you have a WONDERFUL day!

  20. Peggy says:

Be still… yep scripture… Ps 46:10. It is what my soul needs so often, that reminder that God is in control. To calm my soul… and my mind! Happy Birthday! I took the Creatively Made Home course and LOVED it! It was just what I needed!! After 3 years (in this house) and almost 23 years of marriage I am finally getting bold enough to let my “style” shine. Do you know what? My husband LOVES it! :) He said it just feels right. Yippee!! Once again have a wonderful birthday and thank you for being such a blessing!!

  21. Mandy says:

Let Go! I love that and try to use it when I get myself all worked up about things I can’t control (which is often!)
