Write for five minutes, unedited on …. LOOK
Ready, set, write….
I just spent a weekend with 200 other women. Women who are bloggers, who are on Facebook, who tweet, pin, and share on instagram.
Sometimes when I am on those platforms, I just feel like we are all just shouting “look at me! look at me!” …promoting the latest and greatest post we wrote, book we published, retweeting that affirming compliment someone paid us.
Are we looking for pats on the back? Acknowledgement? Worth?
Is that what we really want? Is there something more?
I know that I have used social media as a mask to hide behind, a place to escape my reality. When I am hurting, when I am suffering, I don’t want anyone to know. I hide behind a smile, a laugh, a shrug. I hide behind a post, an update, a tweet with a #smile.
I want them to look right past my pain.
And in this day and age, with everything moving so fast, that’s not hard to do.
But how many people are we missing the opportunity to really connect with because we don’t take the time to look any deeper than what we see on the surface? Or maybe that’s just it…our own lives are too busy to take the time to invest in someone else.
